This Privacy Policy explains how FrontOfWeb Directories handles personal information across our directory brands. It applies to PetCareDB.com, the other websites presented as FrontOfWeb Directories, and the accounts, directory listings, claim tools, review tools, contribution features, support channels and related services connected with them (the Service).
Contact and privacy requests
Email [email protected] or use our contact form for privacy questions, access or correction requests, or concerns about information in a listing.
Information we collect
The information we collect depends on how you use the Service and includes, where relevant:
- Account and contact information: your name, display name, email address, organisation, login and security information, communication preferences, and records of accepting our legal terms.
- Listings and source information: business names, addresses, contact details, opening hours, websites, categories, locations, aggregate ratings and review counts, and information used to check or update a listing. A listing can identify a sole trader, home-based business, staff member or business representative.
- Claims and verification: information used to check whether someone is authorised to act for a business, including supporting material and records of the verification process.
- Contributions and communications: reviews, photos, corrections, reports, promotions, events, feedback, support requests and other material you send us.
- Use of the Service: searches, favourites, votes, recently viewed listings, interactions with listings, account roles and similar activity. Activity can be associated with one directory or used across FrontOfWeb Directories.
- Technical and security information: IP address, device and browser information, session data, timestamps, page and referrer details, security events and diagnostic logs.
- Paid services, if offered: plan, billing and transaction information. Payment providers can collect payment details directly under their own privacy notices. We do not need to receive or store your full card number.
Where information comes from
We collect information from you, other users, businesses and their representatives, public websites and records, third-party data sources, and providers that help us operate the Service. Listing data can be combined, corrected, updated and refreshed from more than one source.
If we collect personal information from another source, this policy helps explain that collection. We provide additional notice where the law requires it. Exceptions can apply where the information is already publicly available or another lawful basis applies.
How we use information
We use personal information to:
- provide, maintain, personalise and improve the Service;
- create and update listings and help visitors find relevant businesses;
- operate accounts and features across FrontOfWeb Directories;
- receive, verify, publish, moderate and manage claims and contributions;
- respond to support, correction, removal, legal and privacy requests;
- send account, claim, moderation, security and other service messages;
- provide and administer paid services where offered;
- measure use, develop features, protect security and prevent misuse; and
- comply with law and establish, exercise or defend legal rights.
What is public
Listings, your chosen display name, and contributions intended for publication are visible to the public when published. They can appear across FrontOfWeb Directories and be indexed by search engines. Do not submit personal information you do not want made public.
Passwords, private account settings and verification material are not intended to be public. Staff and authorised service providers can access non-public information where reasonably needed for their work.
When we share information
We share information where needed with:
- providers that support hosting, storage, email, security, maps, analytics, moderation or payments;
- moderators, contractors and professional advisers who need it for their work;
- a purchaser or successor involved in a proposed or completed transfer of the Service; and
- regulators, courts, law enforcement or other people where disclosure is required or permitted by law, or reasonably necessary to protect rights, safety or the Service.
We do not sell or rent personal information. We can publish or share information that is already public, aggregated, or de-identified so that it no longer identifies an individual.
Overseas providers
Providers can store or process information in more than one country. Where law requires additional steps for an overseas disclosure or transfer, we take the steps required by that law. Providers acting only on our behalf handle information under our instructions and appropriate safeguards.
Cookies and similar storage
We use cookies, browser storage and similar technologies for sessions, sign-in, security, form protection, preferences and features such as recently viewed listings. Where configured for a site, we may also use analytics or measurement tools that set cookies or similar technologies. Third-party maps, security tools, analytics or other embedded services can use their own technologies under their policies. We will update these notices or seek consent where the law requires it. Blocking necessary cookies can stop parts of the Service from working.
Communications
We send messages needed to operate your account, handle a request, verify a claim, moderate content, provide security notices or administer a service. We send marketing messages only where permitted and provide an unsubscribe method where required. Stopping marketing does not stop necessary service messages.
Retention
We keep information only for as long as reasonably needed for the purposes described here, including security, moderation, legal, accounting and dispute purposes. The period varies by the type of information. We can delete or de-identify information when it is no longer needed. Backups and technical logs can take time to cycle out.
Closing an account does not necessarily remove published contributions or listing history. We can retain or de-identify them where reasonably needed to preserve context, enforce our Terms or meet legal obligations.
Security
We use safeguards that we consider reasonable for the nature of the information, including restricted access and password hashing. No service can guarantee complete security. You are responsible for keeping your login details secure and should use two-factor authentication where available.
Your choices and rights
You can ask to access or correct personal information we hold about you. You can also ask us to close an account, correct or remove a listing, or delete information. We can require information needed to verify your identity and retain information where the law permits or requires it. We aim to respond to straightforward listing correction or removal requests within 7 working days, although complex matters can take longer.
Contact [email protected]. If you are not satisfied with our response, you can raise your concern with a privacy regulator or other authority able to consider it.
Children
The Service is not directed to children. If you believe a child has provided personal information without appropriate permission, contact us so we can review it.
Changes to this policy
We can update this policy as the Service or legal requirements change. We will post the current version here and, where reasonably practicable, draw attention to material changes.
